A delegation of Muslim prayer leaders from France will meet with Pope Francis in the Vatican.
The Wednesday meeting has been planned by Jewish author Mark Halter who had previously accompanied the Friendship Convoy to Gaza, lindependant reported.
It is aimed at helping to improve relations between Muslims and Christians.
Halter said the new Pope can do things to strengthen relations between Islam and Christianity. “Having faith in this ability (of the pope), I wrote him a letter and asked him to meet with a Muslim delegation.”
He said it is time that non-Muslims make efforts to learn about Islam and avoid prejudices against the religion.
Pope Francis has urged Christians and Muslims not to hold one another in contempt but to respect one another.
Halter had first met the current pope in the 1980s when he was head of bishops in the Argentina’s capital of Buenos Aires.
