Universities Capable of Training 2 Million Quran Memorizers

Universities and higher education centers in the country has the potential to train two million memorizers of the Holy Quran.
Quran and Etrat Deputy of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Mohammadi made the remark at the meeting of the Council for Coordinating Quranic Activities in Universities.
The meeting was hosted by the Supreme Leader’s Representative office in universities on Tuesday, October 1.
Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammadi said that universities have certain responsibilities in terms of Quranic activities and promoting the Quranic culture, adding that these responsibilities have been defined by the Specialized Commission for Quranic Studies affiliated to the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.
Secretary of the Council for Developing the Quranic Culture also pointed to the establishment of the council as one of the great achievements by the previous administration and said its establishment helped to provide a systemic structure for Quranic activities in the country.
Referring to the issue of Quran memorization, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammadi said from the 75 million population of Iran, 57 million can participate in the plan for training Quran memorizers and that they include 13 million school students, 4 million university students and 40 million from other sections of the society.
He underlined that memorizing the Quran is just the beginning and that it should be a preliminary step for contemplating the Holy Book.
The cleric hoped that with the implementation of programs such as Quran competitions, Quran examinations, etc, the Quranic atmosphere will develop in universities.
He went on to say that a 1000-billion rial budget has been allocated to the Education Ministry this year for implementing the Quran Memorization Training Plan.
