The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has expressed strong denunciation of the statement by the President of the Czech Republic, Milos Zeman, indicating his wish to transfer his country’s embassy to Jerusalem.
The Secretary General stated that this dangerous proposal violated international law and resolutions of international legitimacy, undermined the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, and was capable of hurting the Czech Republic’s relations with the entire OIC states.
The Secretary General had received a message from the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Riyadh Al Maliki, in this regard.
Ihsanoglu noted that the statement of the Czech Republic’s President was different from the position of the international community on the City of Jerusalem, especially the European Union.
He assured that he was working on convening an emergency meeting of permanent representatives to consider this dangerous move and take a position thereon.
