The statement urged the clashing sides in Syria to announce a truce on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, OIC website reported.
Arab League Secretary General Nabil Al-Arabi and OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu have signed the joint statement.
They said announcing a ceasefire on the occasion of Eid could open a prospective for peace for the Syrian people and an end to violence and clashes.
They added that a truce could also pave the way for organzing the Geneva II conference and reaching a political solution to the crisis.
Heads of the OIC and Arab League also urged the international community to support the call for ceasefire in Syria.
They hoped that the Syrian government and the armed opposition groups will respond positively to this call and avoid clashes during the Eid.
Syria has been the scene of unrest for more than two years. Many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the turmoil that began in March 2011.
