The presidents of a number of Muslim countries are attending this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
According to Al-Alam news network, Mamnoon Hussain, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, and Omar Al-Bashir, presidents of Pakistan, Mauritania and Sudan are among heads of states going on Hajj pilgrimage this year.
Turkey’s President Abdullah Gul is also in the holy city of Makkah to perform Hajj. He is the first Turkish president to attend Hajj while in office.
The Hajj is the largest annual pilgrimage in the world. It is obligatory for this pilgrimage to be carried out by every able bodied Muslim at least once in their lifetime if they can afford to do so.
Some 2 million pilgrims from all around the world have come to the holy city of Makkah for the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
That figure is down on last year’s 2.5 million as Riyadh has imposed a 20-percent cut this year on the quota for pilgrims.
