Dubai to Host Int’l Halal Summit
Dubai will host an international Halal summit at The Shangri-La Hotel from October 22-23.
Gathering governments, manufacturers across the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and ingredients, retail and supply chain industries and logistics leaders from Africa, the Americas, the Asia Pacific, Europe and the Middle East, the 3rd Global Halal Trade and Logistics Summit will address the harmonisation of global halal standards to ensure the integrity of products for consumers around the world.
The opening keynote address will be given by Haluk Dag, Secretary-General of the OIC’s Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), who will be followed by Saeed Al Awadi, CEO, Dubai Export Development Corporation, who will talk about Islamic trade. In total 20 leading international speakers will take part in the programme.
The global halal industry is estimated to be worth about $2.3 trillion (Dh8.44 trillion). Major firms such as Mars Foods and KFC are now insisting that their supply chains and logistics providers are globally halal-compliant to provide international assurance to consumers of product integrity in Muslim and non-Muslim countries.
The summit aims to provide a unique global platform for the exchange of ideas and information, networking and business development for professionals in the halal trade to share best practice and develop new business networks.
