In line with continued Shia-phobia in Egypt, head of a Salafist political group warned against the spread of Shia Islam in the city of Aswan.
Walid Esameel, head of the Muslim Coalition for Defending the Sahaba said Shias are attempting to build mosques and Husseiniyas (religious centers) for spreading the Jafari (Shia) school, Misriz website reported.
He claimed that Shias use Sufi methods to spread Shi’ism in Egypt by infiltrating some charity societies in Aswan.
Walid Esameel called on security forces and the country’s officials to prevent Shias from building mosques and religious centers in Aswan.
With the fall of former dictator Hosni Mubarak, pressures on Shia Muslims in Egypt have been increasing as Salafists try to prevent the spread of the school of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).
In June this year, Prominent Egyptian Shia cleric, Sheikh Hassan Shehata, and four of his devotees were killed in a brutal attack carried out by Takfiri extremists in Giza Province near Cairo.
The attack was carried out when a crowd of several hundred assailants provoked by Salafists attacked Sheikh Shehata’s home and then set it on fire.
