The 17th edition of the Qadir Festival was inaugurated in the holy city of Najaf on Saturday, October 26.
The motto of this edition of the festival is “Media, Responsibility, Mission”, Noon news agency reported.
It is underway in Najaf with the participation of media representatives from different Arab and non-Arab countries.
Sayyid Muzar Al-Buka, director of Al-Qadir Satellite Network and supervisor of the festival said it aims to put an end to the trend of sidelining the historical event of Qadir Khum, in which people swore allegiance with Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib (AS) as the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) successor.
He said raising awareness for confronting the big conspiracy against Muslim unity in the region and the world is another purpose of the festival.
Ali Al-Buka, head of the jury panel of the festival, said it has drawn extensive participation from Iraq and other countries like Algeria, Tunisia, Turkey, Iran, Kuwait, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Russia and Yemen.
He added that different works in the form of movies, animation productions and other programs have been submitted to the Committee of Qadir Competition, held on the sidelines of the festival.
