Speaking in a press conference at the United Nations on Monday, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu added that no credible Islamic institute would support Takfiri Fatwas.
He said Islam has been hijacked by some extremist and Takfiri groups who try to justify their sinister actions in the name of religion.
He underlined that the OIC remains committed to confronting extremism and religious discrimination in different parts of the world.
Ihsanoglu referred to the statement of the OIC member states issued in 2005 in Makkah in which 8 Islamic schools of thought have been recognized, saying that the OIC’s position toward Takfiri groups is clear.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ihsanoglu called for enhanced cooperation between the OIC and the UN in promoting peace, justice, human rights and development.
