TEHRAN (IQNA) – Several Serb ex-soldiers and officers have been charged of killing dozens of Muslim civilians in the northern Prijedor city of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 1992-1995 war.

"It is one of the largest indictments for war crimes in the region of Prijedor", prosecutors' office said in a statement.

The 15 Serbs were indicted on multiple charges including murder, rape, looting and the destruction of property in the village of Zecovi, not far from the Prijedor city, during the start of Bosnia's ethnic war in 1992.

While some bodies of the 150 victims were buried in mass grave in Tomasico, the remains of 29 women and children are still missing.

The bodies found in Bosnia's largest mass grave of Tomasico were among 450 exhumed from the grave that is believed to contain bodies of about 900 Muslims and Croats, OnIslam.net reported.

Taken to detention camps where most of them were killed, the 701 Muslim were driven out of Zecovi village during the wartime.

Last September, Bosnian police arrested 13 former Bosnian Serb soldiers and policemen over charges of committing war crimes against Bosniaks and Croats during the 1992-1995 war.

In August, a Dutch court found Netherlands liable for the killing of more than 300 Bosnian Muslims out of 8,000 who were killed 1995, ordering the nation to pay compensations for the families of the Muslim victims.

Bosnia fell into civil war in 1992 that left 200,000 people dead and displaced millions as Serb forces launched ethnic cleansing campaign against Bosnian Muslims.

During the 43-month war, which claimed some 200,000 lives, nearly two million people fled their homes, half a million of them are still listed as refugees.

In the final months of the three-year war, Serb forces, led by General Ratko Mladic, overran Srebrenica, killing some 8,000 Muslim men and boys.

Bosnian Serb wartime leader Radovan Karadzic and his military chief Ratko Mladic, the two people considered most responsible for the massacre, are both facing trial for genocide before the UN war crimes court in The Hague over Srebrenica.

The other main protagonists of the war have all died or have been convicted of war crimes.
