Morocco’s Int’l Quran Competition Gets Underway

TEHRAN (IQNA) - The 10th edition of Morocco’s International Holy Quran Competition started in the city of Casablanca on Tuesday.


The King Mohammed VI Quran contest is held on memorization, recitation and interpretation of the Holy Quran.

50 contenders from 37 Arab and Muslim countries are taking part in the international Quranic event, Manara website reported.

Ahmed Tawfiq, Morocco’s Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, in an address to the opening ceremony described holding the competition as an indication of the importance his country attaches to Quranic activities.

According to Muhammad Jamil Mubarak, chairman of the competition’s jury panel, Quran experts from Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan serve in the panel.

The two-day contest is held in two categories: memorization of the entire Quran with recitation and interpretation, and Tajweed recitation with memorization of 5 Hizbs (sections) of the Quran.

Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania, Brunei, Cameroon, the UAE, Sudan, Turkey, Pakistan, Malaysia, Russia, Nigeria, Jordan and Lebanon are among the countries represented in Morocco’s International Quran competition.
