People Angry over Desecration of Quran in Libyan City

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The insulting move by unknown individuals to set copies of the Quran on fire has angered people in a city in northeastern Libya.

According to Akhbar Libya24, a group of unidentified individuals on Monday raided the Zawiya al-Araq Mosque in the city of Jalu, and burned the Quran copies and prayers beads in the mosque.
People have condemned the move and criticized security forces for failing to prevent the act of desecration.
Libya plunged into chaos following the 2011 uprising against the dictatorship of Muammar Gaddafi.
The ouster of Gaddafi gave rise to a patchwork of heavily-armed militias and deep political divisions.
The country has been witnessing numerous clashes between government forces and rival militia groups that refuse to lay down arms.
