TEHRAN (IQNA) – A large number of Bahrainis on Saturday held congregational prayers at the site of demolished mosques in Manama.

According to al-Wefaq website, they said Zuhr and Asr prayers at the al-Alawiat and Ain Rastan  mosques in Manama.
The two places of worship had been demolished by al-Khalifa forces in 2011.
After prayers, they formed a human chain around the mosques and slamming the oppressive measures of the al-Khalifa regime, called for the release of Bahraini opposition figure Sheikh Ali Salman.
The Bahraini regime has carried out demolition campaigns against more than 38 Shia mosques since the start of the 2011 uprising.
The uprising began on February 14, 2011. Protesters initially called for political reforms and a constitutional monarchy. However, the demand later changed to an outright call for the ouster of the Al Khalifa family following its brutal crackdown on popular protests.
Scores of people have been killed in the crackdown and security forces have arrested hundreds including doctors and nurses. Dozens of demonstrators have also been sentenced to jail terms for attending street protests.
