Hindus Seek to Revoke Muslims' Voting Right
"Till Muslims are used as vote-banks, they have no future. This is why Bal Thackeray had demanded that Muslims' voting rights be taken away. This was right," Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said in a column published in Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna, NDTV reported on Sunday, April12.
"The day voting rights of Muslims are taken away, the facade of people who claim to be 'secular' will be exposed."
According to the political leader, revoking Muslims' right to vote will end partition based on religion.
He also criticized All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leaders Asaduddin and Akbaruddin Owaisi and accused them of polarizing the community.
"Owaisi bhai is doing politics of Muslim votes and we don't know if it will benefit him or the community, but it will harm the country," Raut said in the write-up cited by the Huffington Post.
Raut's anti-Muslim remarks have sparked anger among several political parties that called for taking restrict action against the MP.
"The comments are unfortunate and against the law," said Kamal Farooqui, member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board.
Deeming it "unconstitutional", former Congress MP sandeep Dikshit warned that Raut's call will foster division in the country.
Reacting to the Sena leader's comments, Congress' Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "It is disgusting to hear such remarks... We are living in a democratic country, not in any Talibani state."
"Sterilize Muslims, Christians"
In another controversy, a leader of Hindu Mahasabha said that Indian Muslims and Christians should forcibly undergo sterilization to curb their fast growing population.
According to Sadhvi Deva Thakur, the vice-president of All India Hindu Mahasabha, the increasing number of religious minorities poses as a threat to Hindus.
"The population of Muslims and Christians is growing day by day," Thakur was quoted by the Times of India.
"To rein in this, Centre will have to impose emergency, and Muslims and Christians will have to be forced to undergo sterilization so that they can't increase their numbers," she added.
Meanwhile, the political leader called on Hindus to increase their populations by having more children.
