TEHRAN (IQNA) – A conference titled “Islam for the Youth” was held in the German capital of Berlin on April 10-12.

It was organized the German ministry of foreign affairs (Foreign Office) in reaction to the recent anti-Islamic rallies and moves in several cities of the European country, al-Yawm al-Sabi news website reported.
Young people below the age of 25 took part in the conference to discuss countering Islamophobia and attended workshops to analyze the views and positions of groups that to at spread discord in society.
Germany has been witnessing a growing trend of Islamophobic incidents in recent months.
The chairman of Germany’s Central Council of Muslims said in January that Muslims and mosques are being increasingly targeted in the country following the rise of Islamophobia in Europe.
“Insults against Muslims, often women with a headscarf, vandalism against mosques and violence against imams have become a daily occurrence,” Aiman Mazyek said.
He held the right-wing PEGIDA group accountable for the increasing number of attacks on Muslims and Islamic sites, saying the movement has “led directly to the lowering of many people’s inhibitions about discriminating against and attacking Muslims.”
PEGIDA, a German acronym which stands for the “Patriotic Europeans against the Islamization of the West” is a staunch opponent of Muslims and asylum seekers.
The radical group began its anti-Islam rallies in German cities in October last year.
