TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt’s Al-Azhar, has vehemently condemned the heinous murder of dozens of Ethiopian Christians by the ISIL terrorists in Libya earlier this week.

Al-Azhar condemns the "heinous terrorist crime committed by terrorist group Daesh," it said on a Facebook post.

The actions of "Daesh (ISIL) and other similar organizations do not comply by any means with any religion, human laws and customs."

Al-Azhar condemnation followed the release of a video that claims the beheading of a group of Ethiopians, while others were being shot by masked militants.

Sparking global condemnations, many have expressed "great distress and sadness" over the mass murder.

The mass slaughter of Christians in Libya is not the first by ISIL affiliate militants.
Last February, the terrorist group beheaded 20 Egyptian Christians, drawing condemnations from Muslim scholars across the world.

Militants from ISIL have been widely condemned by Muslims worldwide who staged several protests to express anger against the terrorist group.

The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has dismissed ISIL announcement of forming a “caliphate” in areas they control in Iraq and Syria, saying it lacked any Islamic or realistic aspects.
As Ethiopia announced three days of national mourning, the country's Muslims and Christian held joint prayers to condemn the heinous crime.

Leading the prayers, Sheikh Mohammed Jemal, the head of Ethiopia's Islamic Affairs Supreme Council, said the killing of people like "chickens" had no place in Islam.

"If ISIL were religious, they would never have killed human beings," said Kedir Hussein, a Muslim who attended the joint prayers.

"The death of these young people is like someone was killed in my family."
