TEHRAN (IQNA) - The 10th edition of “Al-Hashemi” international Quran competition for women began on April 20 in Amman, Jordan.

According to Al-Dastoor newspaper, Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has organized the competition.

55 representatives from 21 countries compete in Quran memorization, reading and interpretation categories.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the Quranic event, Hael Abdulhafeez Davoud, Jordanian minister of Awqaf, described the contest as an indication of the Jordanian governmnet's attention to the dissemination of Islamic principles, Nabawi Sunnah and respect for Quran activists.

Wafa Al-‘Amad, director of the ministry’s Office for Women’s Affairs, said that the ministry’s efforts to develop Quran teaching and memorization, which disseminates a healthy thought in the society, plays a key role in strengthening security and stability in the country.

The international competition is supervised by a panel of 6 Quran experts, 4 of them from Jordan, and the two others are from Qatar and Algeria.

Iranian Quran memorizer Hajar Mehralian will represent the Islamic Republic in this edition of the competition.

She came first in the 36th edition of Iran’s national Quran contest and has won a first title in the country’s Students’ Quran and Etrat Competition as well.
