TEHRAN (IQNA) – Chairman of the Council of Muftis in Russia called for an end to the Saudi-led aggression on Yemen.

In an interview with IRNA, Nafigullah Ashirov said Riyadh must stop the airstrikes that have killed or injured thousands of Yemenis so far.

He said it is unacceptable to attack a country and kill innocent people, especially Muslims.

Ashirov stressed that the crisis in Yemen has no military solution, adding that Muslim states, especially Yemen’s neighboring countries, ought not to exacerbate the situation through military intervention.

He hailed Iran’s four-point proposal for the peaceful resolution of the crisis in Yemen and said it should be supported.

Iran’s proposal includes hammering out a ceasefire, sending humanitarian assistance to the people affected by violence, launching an intra-Yemeni dialogue, and establishing a broad-based government participated by all Yemeni factions.

Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies on March 26 began to militarily interfere in Yemen's internal affairs by launching deadly air strikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

The Saudi-led coalition announced on April 21 that its military operation "Decisive Storm" has ended, but hours later, air strikes and ground fighting resumed.

According to the spokesman of the Yemeni Army, the Saudi-led war on the Arab country killed more than 2000 people, most of them civilians.
