New Town Launched for Pilgrims in Iraq

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A new town built for hosting Shia pilgrims was opened on May 16 on the way from Karbala to Najaf, Iraq, to host pilgrims traveling between the two holy cities.


According to the website of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine, the town, named after Imam Hassan (AS),was launched in a ceremony attended by Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalayi, custodian of Imam Hussein’s (AS) holy shrine, Seyyed ‘Alaa Al-Mousawi, head of the Iraqi Shias Awqaf Department and a number of religious figures from Karbala, members of Iraqi parliament as well as the country’s ministers and political figures.

The twon is located 17 kilometers from the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) on the way to the holy city of Najaf.

It includes a two-story official complex, a mosque, a two-floor restaurant to host about 1000 pilgrims, 16 suites, and parks.
