Malaysia Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) director-general, Datuk Othman Mustapha said so far, 29 countries had confirmed their participation in the 'tilawah' (Quran reciting) category and 27 countries in the 'hafazan' (Quran memorizing) category, and 20 in both.
"In the Quran reciting category, Malaysia will be represented by the champions in the recent men and women's sections of the 58th National-Level Tilawah Al-Quran.
"They are Wan Ainuddin Hilmi from Kelantan and Siti Husnaa Hassan from Pahang, respectively," he said at a news conference, in Kuala Lumpur.
In the Quran memorizing category, Malaysia will be represented by Muhammad Syazani Jemy from Johor and Farihah Zulkifli from the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory, who were the champions at the 36th national-level competition.
Othman said at the event themed, 'Unity the Pulse of National Transformation', the Quran recital would be judged by a 15-member panel of experts, including from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Thailand.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah is scheduled to grace the opening and closing ceremonies of the prestigious event.
Othman said the men and women's champions in Quran recital would each receive a gold bar worth RM70,000 from the Malaysia Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM), RM40,000 in cash, a trophy and a certificate of participation.
In the Quran memorizing category, the champions will each receive a RM20,000 gold bar from YaPEIM, RM20,000 in cash, a trophy and a certificate.
