Quran Contest Begins at Al-Aqsa Mosque

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A competition on memorization of the entire Quran was launched at al-Aqsa Mosque on Tuesday.

The contest will continue until the end of the holy month of Ramadan, SAFA news agency reported.


According to Sheikh Abdul Rahman Bakirat, the competition’s supervisor, the contenders are from the holy city of Quds and the West Bank.


He said it the competition is held in two separate sections for men and women, adding that senior Palestinian Quran experts evaluate the performance of the participants.


The Quranic event is aimed at serving the Holy Book and reviving Quranic activities at al-Aqsa Mosque and in the Occupied Quds, he stated.


Bakirat added that it also aims to foster the Quranic teachings among the youth and encourage them to learn Quran recitation and memorize verses of the Holy Book.


Winners of the top three positions in the Quranic contest will be awarded cash prizes worth 5000, 4000 and 3000 dollars, respectively.


Those who come 4th to 10th will also receive 200 dollars, each, the organizers said.


During the holy month of Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic Hijri calendar, various Quranic programs are held across the Muslim world to help the faithful benefit more from the spiritual blessings of this month.


This year, Ramadan began on Thursday, June 18 and will end on July 17.
