Representatives of Bangladesh and Mauritania came first and second in this category while Iran’s Mohammad Hossein Behzadfar bagged the third prize.
The 11-day international Quran competition concluded on Saturday night. It saw 76 contestants from across the globe.
The names of the top winners in the memorization category will be announced during the concluding ceremony to be held at the Cultural & Scientific Association, Al Mamzar, on Wednesday night, July 15.
The competition began in the UAE city on Wednesday, June 24.
It is annually held on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. Many Muslim countries organize Quran competitions in the holy month every year.
Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic Hijri calendar. This year, it began on Thursday, June 18.
During Ramadan, Muslims all over the world fast (abstain from foods and drinks) from sunrise to sunset.
They also devote a considerable amount of time during this month to reading and contemplating the Quran.
