Malaysian Student Wins MABIMS Quran Memorizing Competition in Brunei

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A matriculation student from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) made the country proud after emerging as champion in the Quran memorizing and understanding competition for Religious Ministers of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (MABIMS) member countries.

Putri Nur Nadia Bakri, 18, who competed in memorizing 10 Juzes (chapters) of the Holy Book and understanding of seven chapters, received BND4,000 (1 BND = RM2.80), a trophy and a certificate of appreciation.

The four-day competition, starting June 30, took place at the Musyawwarah hall of the International Convention Centre in Berakas, Brunei Darussalam.

USIM Strategic Communications Centre officer, Mohd Zaini Othman said the prize-giving ceremony was graced by the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah on July 3.

He said, this year, the eight participants comprised four male and four female memorizers from MABIMS member countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

"The competition was divided into two categories, namely memorizing 10 chapters of the Quran and understanding of seven chapters, and memorizing 30 chapters and understanding 20 chapters, which was also dominated by Malaysia's representative, Farihah Zulkifli, 20, a student of Darul Quran, Jakim.

"The competition is held to realize the vision and mission of MABIMS and to strengthen cooperation among its member countries in the study and propagation of Quranic teachings," he said in a statement, here, today.

Meanwhile, Putri Nur Nadia who could memorize the 30 chapters of the Quran when she was 13, thanked her parents, who helped her a lot in training for the competition.

"I will always consistently read and repeat what I have memorized. Besides, my mother is very concerned about my consumption of food and drinks, whereby she will make sure it comes from halal sources," she said.
