According to radioalgerie.dz, the ceremony was held at the grand mosque in Algiers, the capital city.
It was attended by Abdul Qadir ibn Salih, Chairman of Algeria’s Ummah Council, Muhammad Al-Arabi Khalifa, speaker of Algerian National People’s Assembly, Abdul Malik Salal, Algeria’s Prime Minister and representatives of some Arab and Islamic countries.
Aisha Nuwishi from Algeria, Abdullah Hamd Salim Hamd Abu Sharidha from Qatar and Ali Ibrahim Al-Mahdi Abu Rahim from Libya were respectively the first to the third rank winners of the competition.
Quran activists from 50 countries participated in this edition of the competition.
There were representatives from non-Muslim countries, including Canada, the Philippines, Croatia, Belgium and Russia, in the competition for the first time.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, the winners of the national Quran memorization competition for teenagers under 15 were also announced and awarded.
The three top participants were Rizvan Ibrahimi from Al-Bouira Province of Algeria, Ala’ Zeituni from Al-Blida Province and Abdullah Khubzi from Ouargla Province of Algeria.
Members of the the international competition's board of judges, who were Quran experts from Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Algeria were also honored in the ceremony.
The 12th edition of the international Quran competition in Algeria had started on July 6 in Algiers.
It was organized under the supervision of Abdul ‘Aziz Bouteflika, the president of Algeria.
The first winner of the national Quran competition recited some verses of Quran in the closing ceremony and a Tawasheeh performance by a group from Annaba Province was among other parts of the program.
