Muslim World Scholars Congratulate Iran over Nuclear Agreement

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A number of Muslim scholars from different countries congratulated the supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and the Iranian government and people on the nuclear agreement reached between Tehran and world powers on Tuesday.

 Sayyed Ammar al-Hakim, the president of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, in his message described the deal as a great achievement.

Head of the Scholars Assembly of Tyre in Lebanon, Sheikh Ali Yasin, referred to it as a victory for the world’s oppressed.


Senior Lebanese cleric Sayyed Ali Fadlallah also congratulated Iran on the achievement, saying Iran proved to the world that it will not retreat from its rights and that it does not seek nuclear weapons.


He expressed hope that the agreement will also help to resolve regional problems.


Fadlallah went on to say that Iran is an exemplary country for the Muslim world.


Bahraini opposition figure Sheikh Ali Salman, who is in Al Khalifa regime’s jail, in his message congratulated all Iranians and stressd that dialogue was the best way to resolve issues.


Syrian President Bashar al-Assad also sent separate messages to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, in which he hailed the long-awaited agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).


Iran and the sextet concluded more than two weeks of talks over Tehran’s nuclear program in Vienna on Tuesday in a final round a senior Iranian lawmaker explained as “successful”.


The negotiating parties reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive deal on Tehran’s nuclear program after 22 months of diplomatic negotiations.


In a joint statement on Tuesday, EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, who has been coordinating diplomacy with Iran on behalf of the six powers, and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, referred to Tuesday as an historic day.


“It is a great honour for us to announce that we have reached an agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue," the statement said, adding that "With courage, political will, mutual respect and leadership, we delivered on what the world was hoping for: a shared commitment to peace and to join hands in order to make our world safer. This is an historic day also because we are creating the conditions for building trust and opening a new chapter in our relationship.”
