Iraqi Quran reciter Abdullah Munim al-Silawi bagged the first prize of the competition, which was held on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, Qaaf news agency reported.
The runner-up was also a Qari from Iraq named Barir Muhammad Reza while Mohammad Ali Foruqi from Afghanistan won the third rank, Seyed Reza Nasreddin al-Mousawi, an official with the organizing committee said.
He said 50 Quran reciters from 20 countries competed in the international Quranic event.
The phone-in contest was held every night during Ramadan and broadcast live on Al-Ghadir TV.
A number of Quran experts in the TV station’s studio assessed the performance of the Qaris.
