Syrian Quran Interpreter Passes Away

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A top Syrian Mufasir (interpreter) of the Quran passed away at the age of 83.

Allameh Wahba bin Mustafa al-Zahili died on Saturday in Damascus.


Born in 1932, he studied Fiqh and Islamic Sharia and got his PhD in Egypt’s Cairo University. 


Al-Zahili was once selected as one of the world’s 500 infleuntial Muslim figures in 2008.
He was a member of Fiqh (jurisprudence) councils in Makkah, Jeddah, India, Sudan and the US.


The Syrian scholar wrote a number of books including al-Munir Interpretation of the Quran, which was published in 16 volumes.


It won the Muslim world book of the year award in 1995.


He also presented lectures on Quranic issues and Fiqh broadcast on TV networks in Syria and other Arab countries.
