TEHRAN (IQNA) – The ISIL Takfiri terrorist group blew up 21 houses belonging to Christians in a small town near the major Iraqi city of Mosul.

According to local sources, the terrorist group has also demolished tens of houses in the Nineveh province, northern Iraq, al-Sumaria news reported.

Analysts believe ISIL has intensified such demolitions in order to intimidate the population and in retaliation for its recent defeats.

Iraq has been facing the growing threat of terrorism, mainly posed by the ISIL terrorist group, which is believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.

ISIL militants took control of large swaths of the country in summer 2014.

However, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the volunteer forces, who rushed to take arms after top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a fatwa calling for fight against the militants, have blunted the edge of the ISIL offensive.
