TEHRAN (IQNA) – The body of a Shia scholar from Lebanon who had been missing since the deadly crush in Mina, Saudi Arabia, last month, has been identified.

The body of Allameh Sayyid Heydar al-Hassani, who was the Friday prayers leader of Markaba Town in southern Lebanon, was identified in the holy city of Makkah via DNA testing.

He was among more than 7500 people from different countries killed in a crush of pilgrims in Mina, near Makkah, on September 24 while performing the Hajj rituals.

The incident that marked the worst ever Hajj disaster came nearly two weeks after tens of Hajj pilgrims were killed in another tragic incident in Makkah.

On September 11, a massive construction crane crashed into Mecca’s Grand Mosque in stormy weather, killing at least 107 people, including 11 Iranians, and injuring 201 others.

Saudi authorities have come under fire for their inability to ensure the safety of hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who converge on Mecca every year.
