Int’l Quran Competition Begins in Saudi Arabia

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 37th edition of international competition on Quran memorization, recitaion and interpretation in Saudi Arabia has been held since November 7 in the holy city of Mecca.


According to Bab news agency, the country’s Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Dissemination has organized the competition which is underway in different sections of Masjid al-Haram.





Memorization of the entire Quran with observation of Tajweed principles and interpretation of Quranic terms, memorization of the entire Quran with Tajweed, memorization of 15 Juzes (parts) of Quran with Tajweed and memorization of 5 Juzes with Tajweed are the four categories of the competition.





The participants from non-Muslim countries compete in the fourth categroy of this edition of the international event.





Ahmad ibn Ali Al-Siddis, dean of the Quran Faculty of the Islamic University of Medina, Nasir ibn Saud Al-Quthami, deputy of the Theology Faculty of Taif University, Khalid ibn Ali Muhammad Darbani, head of the Quran recitation section at the Quranic School of Algerian Muslim Scholars, Muhammad Nasir Uthman Saktu, lecturer of Al-Sultan Muhammad Mathtu Quranic Research Center in Nigeria and Abdul Karim Zakariya Harun, assistant to the Director General of the Islamic Affairs in Malaysia are members of the jury panel of the competition.





The participants are aged less than 25 and attending the competition for the first time. Another qualification of the participants is that they should not be from among eminent Quran reciter and memorizer of their countries.
