TEHRAN (IQNA) – Lebanon’s Hezbollah Deputy Secretary Sheikh Naim Qassem referred to the global arrogance and the spread of Islamophobia in the world as the two main sources of crises in the region.

Addressing the 29th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran on Sunday, Sheikh Qassem said the hegemonic powers have played a major role in maintaining occupation and supporting corrupt regime in the region.

He added that the spread of a negative and distorted image of Islam is another cause of crises, which should be tackled.

Hundreds of Shia and Sunni scholars have come to Tehran to attend the 29th International Islamic Unity Conference.

The current crises facing the Islamic world are the main subjects to be discussed in the international event, which will last until Tuesday.

Attendees at the conference include educated Muslim figures, ministers of Islamic countries, clerics, scholars and representatives of scientific and cultural circles from Iran and across the world.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Sheikh Qassem referred to Hezbollah’s resistance against the Zionist regime of Israel and its fight against Takfiri terrorists as the right path to take.

Some say that fighting Takfiri groups may prevent Hezbollah from combatting the Zionist regime, he said, adding that it is not true because standing up against Takfiri terrorists is part of the fight against enemies.

Sheikh Qassem also referred to the recent assassination of Hezbollah figure Samir Qantar by the Tel Aviv regime and said the Zionist swill pay for it.

Qantar was killed last week during an Israeli raid which targeted his home in the Syrian city of Jaramana, located 10 kilometers from the capital, Damascus.

He had been released from an Israeli prison during a prisoner swap between Hezbollah and Israel in 2008 after serving 29 years in detention.

Hezbollah Secretary General Seyed Hassan Nasrallah has underlined that Hezbollah reserves the right to respond to this assassination.
