A group of local Muslims invited their neighbors of all faiths to sit down for a meal Saturday night. The idea was to open the door for conversation and dispel myths about who Muslims are as people.

"We have Muslims who are doctors, dentist, lawyers,” said Mohamed Haroon Sait, Director for The American Islamic Outreach Foundation. "They come from all walks of life.”

"What we intend to do here is to open the door so people can come and spend some time with us and to find out that we are Americans we are Muslims we are not any different from the rest of us”.

"It was a wonderful event to be able to share with our neighbors and for members in our community to be educated,” said Kriss Anne Carlstrom.

Mohamed Haroon Sait, Director American Islamic outreach foundation, said gatherings like these are perhaps far more important now than ever because of growing Islamaphobia.

"It's a universal axiom that if you don't know something, you’re doubtful about it, and fearful of it.”

As the presidential races draws closer, Sait said that fear is exactly what some candidates, namely Donald Trump, are capitalizing on.

"I think it is very sad to see that someone is using fear tactics to attract voters to himself,” said Sait. "Hearing that Muslims should be banned from the country should not be allowed to come in all these things are really against the values of America that brought us in here.”

"Muslims are here to stay and help the country to grow,” Sait said.

Members of the American-Islamic Outreach Foundation hope to have additional programs like this in the near future, perhaps monthly and would encourage everyone to come.
