Mustafa al-Fiqhi said Heikal had learned several Juzes (parts) of the Quran by hear.
Speaking to MBC TV, he added that Heikal was well familiar with both the Arabic-Islamic and the European cultures.
The legendary figure will never be forgotten, he went on to say.
Heikal died on Wednesday
at age 93. His funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the Imam Hussein (AS)
Mosque in Cairo.
The leading Egyptian journalist rose to prominence as editor in chief of Egypt's Al-Ahram, widely regarded as the newspaper of record in the Arab world during his tenure.
Many Arab and Muslim world figures and institutions, including Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement, and Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center, offered condolences over the death of the prominent figure.
Hezbollah in a message described Heikal as a great scholar and praised his steadfast faith in efforts for liberation of Palestine.
