Distribution of 130,000 Quran Copies Begins in Mauritania

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A plan has gotten underway in Mauritania to hand out 130,000 copies of the Holy Quran in the country.

According to al-Seraj website, the Taavon Charity Activities Association has launched the initiative, which will see the distribution of the copies among Quranic schools and institutes across the African country.

Sheikh Omar al-Fath, the director of the association, said a scholarly committee has been set up to visit cities, towns and villages and determine the need of their Quranic schools and centers to Quran copies.

He said 45 Quranic centers have so far been identified by the committee to receive the Qurans.

The plan has been funded by a benevolent Bahraini named Abdul Ghaffar Abdul Rahim al-Kahuji.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.

The country’s population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslims.
