TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt’s al-Azhar University has organized a Quran competition for its foreign students.

The competition is underway in the capital of Cairo with the participation of al-Azhar students from different countries, the al-Misri al-Yawm daily reported.

It has been organized by the al-Azhar Alumni Association in cooperation of Northern Nigeria’s Students Association.

81 students are vying for the top titles in the contest, which was launched on Monday, February 22.

There are two categories, namely memorization of the entire Quran and memorization of 15 Juzes (parts) of the Holy Book.

As well as memorization, the contestants’ performance is also evaluated based on their mastery over recitation and Tajweed principles.

Osama Yasin, an official with the al-Azhar Alumni Association, said the contest is part of programs made by the association for the university’s expatriate students.
