The contest was held for the expatriate students of the university on February 23-25, al-Ahram news website reported.
81 foreign students of al-Azhar took part in the two categories of the contest.
Khan Abdul Samad from Afghanistan, Adam Abdullah from Nigeria and Ezatollah Abd al-Wahid from Afghanistan came first to third respectively in memorization of the entire Quran.
In memorization of 15 Juzes (parts) of the Quran, Naba Ali from Togo, Seyfullah Muhammad Qassem from Chad and Zakaria Diabati from the Ivory Coast were the winners of the top titles.
The awarding ceremony was held Thursday with the participation of deputy head of al-Azhar Alumni Society.
In an address, he underlined that the teachings and concepts of the Holy Quran are messages of peace for the soul, heart and mind of all humanity.
He also stressed that violence, destruction and terrorism have nothing to do with the sublime teachings of Islam.
