The event, jointly organized by the Malaysia Islamic Development Department
(JAKIM) and Putrajaya Corporation (PPj), will be held at the Cempaka Sari
Auditorium at PPj, Precinct 3.
JAKIM in a statement Friday said 30 participants had confirmed their
participation, comprising 14 qari (male reciters) and 14 qariah (female
reciters) representing their respective states, and the defending champions
from last year's edition - Wan Ainuddin Hilmi of Kelantan and Siti Husna Hassan
from Pahang.
The prize offered to the champion in each category (qari and qariah) is RM15,000
in cash, a trophy, a Proton Exora, a Haj package, souvenir, and certificate of
participation.
The second, third and consolation prize winners will each take home RM10,000,
RM7,500 and RM3,000 in cash respectively, a souvenir and certificate of
participation.
The champion qari and qariah will represent Malaysia at the 57th International
Quran Reciters Assembly and Quran Memorisation to be held from May 2 to 7, at
the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
