Ayatollah Araki, Iraqi Religious Figures Discuss Proximity of Islamic Schools

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Secretary of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Ayatollah Mohsen Araki held talks with several Iraqi officials and religious figures on promotion of Muslim unity and proximity.

Ayatollah Araki, who is in Iraq, in a meeting with Head of Iraq’s Sunnis’ Awqaf Department Sheikh Abdul Latif al-Hamim discussed the cultural and religious relations between the two Muslim countries and called for establishment of a joint center by Iran and Iraq for promotion of proximity among Islamic schools of thought.

He also suggested the foundation of a university of Islamic sects in Baghdad, which was welcomed by Sheikh Hamim.

Iranian Cultural Attache Hojat-ol-Islam Gholam Reza Abazari and Chancellor of Iran’s University of Islamic Sects Hojat-ol-Islam Ahmad Moballeghi were also present at the meeting.

Ayatollah Araki also met with Iraqi Faryad Rawanduzi.

In this meeting, the senior cleric underlined the need for promotion of the rich Islamic culture and efforts for bringing the cultures of Islamic societies closer together.
