The competition, named Al-Maher fi-Al-Quran has been organized by Mauritania’s Association of Charity Activities in cooperation with the World Association of Quran Memorization, al-Siraj news website reported.
Some 100 Quran activists from different parts of the African country are taking part in the contest.
It is being held in the categories of memorization of the Quran and Quran interpretation.
Ten top winners (five in each category) will be awarded at the end of the competition and winners of the first ranks will represent Mauritania in an international Quran contest in Saudi Arabia.
The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.
The country’s population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslims.
