TEHRAN (IQNA) – Honoring the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) in Kuwait recently manifests the latter's support to Quran memorization and recitation both at home and overseas, a Malaysian official said.

In a press statement on Saturday, Jakim Director-General Datuk Othman Mustafa voiced pride over the honoring of the department by Kuwait's 7th International Quran Memorization and Recitation Competition, April 13-20.

The competition was held under patronage of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait.

Mustafa said the honoring came in recognition of Jakim's efforts in organizing the International Quran Recital Competition (Tilawah Al-Quran) held annually in Malaysia since 1961.

This year's edition of the Kuwait Quran competition coincided with choosing the country as Capital of the Islamic Culture 2016.
