This is according to Mikael Baqeri, an official with the Quran and Etrat Deputy of Iran’s Education Ministry, who told IQNA that the Islamic Republic of Iran will host the event.
He noted that there had been four editions of the competition until 1993 but the contest has not been held since then.
Iran’s Supreme Quran Council has recently decided to revive the international Quranic event and the education ministry has been tasked with organizing the fifth edition, he said.
Baqeri added that some 40 Muslim and non-Muslim countries from Asia, Europe, and other continents are expected to send their representatives to the competition.
It will be held in two categories of recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran, in two groups for girls and boys, he went on to say.
The official also said that the host city and the exact date of the contest will be determined in a meeting of the policy-making council next week.
