The students competed in memorization, recitation and interpretation of the Quran as well as Islamic studies.
Mulago National Referral Hospital, on Mulago Hill in the northern part of the city of Kampala, the capital, hosted the competition.
It is the largest hospital in Uganda and the training hospital of Makerere University College of Health Sciences.
The Islamic association of the university organizes the Quran competition for the students of medical sciences all over the country.
This year’s competition was attended by more than 300 students, and 23 made it to the final round at the campus of Mulago hospital.
Some educational workshops featuring family in the Quran, Islamic studies and Islamic ethics were also held on the first day of the competition.
Medicine in the Quran, method of dissemination and guidance in the Quran and issues related to unity of the Muslim world were the themes of the discussions on the second day of the event.
Ali Bakhtiari, Iranian Cultural Attaché in Uganda who was the honorary guest of the closing ceremony of the competition, in a speech appreciated the efforts of the organizers of the program and talked about the role of the Quran in leading the society to salvation, peace and brotherhood.
He noted that academic centers are the best places for promoting understanding of the Quranic teachings and acting upon them.
The Iranian official called upon the students to hold sessions for learning Quranic concepts and disseminating Quranic ethics in universities.
Winners of the contest were awarded at the end of the ceremony and Mengo Medical School was honored as the most active center in the Quran competition.
