Malaysia Int’l Quran Contest Concludes; Winners to Be Announced Saturday

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The remaining contenders in the 58th edition of Malaysia’s international Quran contest went on the stage today to show their talents and skills to the panel of judges.

According to IQNA dispatches, the competition concluded in both categories, namely recitation and memorization, on Friday.

Winners in the two categories in men’s and women’s sections will be announced and awarded at the closing ceremony on Sunday night.

Iran’s representative Seyed Mostafa Hosseini, who performed his recitation on Wednesday is among the favorites to bag the top prize in the category of recitation in the men’s section.

Iranian Quran master Mohammad Abbasi who has accompanied Hosseini in the competition told IQNA that Qaris from Iran, Malaysia and the Philippines had the best performance in this category.

The contest, officially named "International Al Quran Recital and Memorisation Assembly”, kicked off in Kuala Lumpur on Monday night.

Some 120 Quran reciters and memorizers from 69 countries are attending the competition.

A 16-strong panel of judges comprising Quran experts from Lebanon, Qatar, Brunei, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Indonesia, Egypt, Thailand and Malaysia have evaluated the performance of the contenders and will select the top ones until tomorrow.
