The event which was inaugurated at the Intercontinental Hotel in Festival City Dubai is being organized by the Ministry of Culture for the eighth consecutive year.
The inaugural event was also attended by a large number of public and cultural figures concerned with Fine and Islamic Arts.
The ministry invited all those interested in the art of calligraphy to enjoy the creativity of the Arabic calligraphers in writing a copy of the verses of the Holy Quran.
Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the minister, said that his ministry, while preparing for the launch of the eighth session of the forum, kept in mind the great success of the event in previous sessions.
He stressed that the main objective of the forum was to support arts and Arabic language literature represented in the art of calligraphy not only at the local level but also globally.
Sheikh Nahyan added that the participation of 30 of the world’s most famous calligraphers from 11 Arab and Muslim countries comes after a selection from among hundreds of applicants based on their efficiency, creativity and capabilities, Gtoday reported.
Afra Al Sabri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, added that the ministry was keen to make the Ramadan Forum a real addition to the art of Arabic calligraphy and reviving it. She added that the current session will witness the usage of the fonts "al muhaqiq” and "al rehani” for the first time.
These were fonts used to write the Quran in the past and will be revived by the hands of 30 of the most important calligraphers.
The Supreme Committee supervising the forum will also organize an exhibition for precious Islamic art works including ornamentation and calligraphy for seniors on the sidelines of the forum inaugurated by Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak and will be available to all visitors during the seven days of the forum.
Al Sabri added that this year’s participation includes calligraphers from the UAE, Syria, Iraq, Turkey, Jordan, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Iran, Yemen and Egypt, in addition to the attendance Emirati calligraphers and artists.
The forum focuses on the interest in heritage, culture and the Arabic language, and introducing new generations to Islamic art and calligraphy.
