TEHRAN (IQNA) – Nearly 300,000 individuals have registered to take part in the provincial stage of Iran’s 40th national Quran competition, an official said.

Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mostafa Hosseini, the head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization’s Quranic Affairs Department, told IQNA that this stage of the contest will be held in a 40-day period in different provinces.

This number, namely 300,000, is only of those applying to attend the competition in the adult section, he said, noting that statistics about the students’ section will be provided by the Education Ministry.

Hojat-ol-Islam Hosseini also noted that winners of the provincial stage will make it to the national round.

The northwestern city of Orumiyeh, West Azarbaijan province, will host the national stage of the competition’s 40th edition.

It will be held in the categories of memorization of the Holy Quran (memorization of 5, 10, and 20 Juzes (parts) and the entire Quran), recitation (Tahqiq and Tarteel), memorization of Hadiths, Quran interpretation, choral recitation, Adhan (call to prayer), etc.

Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually organizes the Quranic event with the aim of promoting the teachings of the Holy Quran, fostering Quranic activities and identifying the country’s Quranic talents.
