TEHRAN (IQNA) – Lebanese Quran expert Houra Raqib Harb hailed the importance attached by the organizers of Iran’s 35th International Holy Quran Competition to promoting Islamic unity.

Speaking to IQNA, Harb, who served as a member of panel of judges in the competition’s women’s section described the motto of the international Quranic event, namely “One Book, One Ummah”, as very meaningful.

“This motto shows that Iran attaches special significance to the issue of Muslim unity,” she said.

Harb added that such Quranic events in general play a major role in boosting unity in the Muslim world as they host contenders from various countries of the world.

She said that Iran, as a Shia country, is the target of a negative propaganda campaign and when contestants from all over the world come to Iran, they see for themselves how distorted the image presented by the Western media is.

The Lebanese Quranic figure underlined that Shia Muslims are the flag-bearers of unity and peace and are friendly to everyone except “those who seek to destroy and plunder our countries and lead out youths astray.”

Elsewhere in her remarks, Harb described the international Quran competition for women as a step for encouraging women to learn and memorize the Quran.

She thanked the organizers for properly holding the Quranic event and acting upon the recommendation of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini (RA), on the need for moving on the path of the Quran.

A total of 28 Quran memorizers from 28 countries have taken part in the international Quran competition for women.

It is part of the 35th International Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was officially launched on Thursday, and will conclude on April 25.
