TEHRAN (IQNA) – Saudi Arabia’s general prosecutor asked for the death sentence for two young Bahraini Shias.

According to Bahrain al-Yawm website, Jafar Muhammad and Sadiq Majod are being tried in Saudi Arabia on charges of smuggling explosives into the kingdom.

They attended the first hearing in court earlier this week.

According to their lawyer, Sadiq Jubran, the second hearing is slated for November 9.

They both deny the charges.

Over the past years, Riyadh has redefined its “anti-terrorism laws” to target activism.

In January 2016, Saudi authorities executed Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, who was an outspoken critic of the policies of the Riyadh regime. Nimr had been arrested in Qatif in 2012.
