TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman dismissed the imposition of new US sanctions on Iran as continuation of a failed approach, saying the US foreign policy is in chaos.

In statements on Saturday, Seyed Abbas Mousavi said the new sanctions are nothing new and are a re-expression of previous embargoes.

He said Iran has found its way to counter the US’ pressures since the first set of the sanctions were imposed on the country.

Relying on its internal capabilities and cooperation with friendly countries, Iran will continue on the path of progress and development, he stated.

Mousavi further described the US foreign policy as one in chaos, saying its basis is nothing but bullying, unilateralism and imposing economic terrorism on others.

Such a foreign policy lacks the ability to work out any rational and dynamic diplomatic initiative to resolve disputes with other countries, the Iranian spokesman added.

The Americans must realize that the policy of sanctions has failed and overusing it has undermined US credibility in the international area, he went on to say.

US President Donald Trump on Friday said Washington has imposed new sanctions on the CBI following Tehran’s alleged involvement in last weekend’s drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities.

Iran has denied any involvement in the attacks.

Yemeni armed forces conducted a large-scale operation against Saudi Arabia’s Aramco oil installations last Saturday, in response to the Saudi-led war on their country.

The Yemeni Houthi Ansarullah movement immediately took credit for the attacks, but US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo swiftly accused Iran of being behind the assault, without providing any evidence. Tehran categorically rejected the allegations.
