TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 13th edition of a Quran competition organized by the Imam Ali (AS) Dar-ol-Quran Center is underway in Iran’s holy city of Qom with the participation of 285 foreign nationals.

There are 228 Afghans, 19 Iraqis, 18 Pakistanis, 8 Azerbaijanis as well as participants from India, Tajikistan, Yemen, The Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Britain, Germany, Angola, Ethiopia, and Togo taking part in this edition of the competition.

The women’s section of the competition kicked off on January 23 with a message from grand Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani.

It is being held for some 5600 Quran activists who compete in three age groups on memorization of the Holy Quran and Tahqiq and Tarteel recitation.

This year’s competition has been named after Martyr Qassem Soleimani, who was assassinated earlier this month by US forces in Iraq.

The women section of the contest will run until January 30.
