TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas voiced protest against Lebanese daily Al Joumhouria for publishing a cartoon insulting Palestinians.

The head of Hamas’s foreign media department, Rafat Morra, called on the daily to immediately and official apologize for the insulting cartoon, palinfo.com website reported.

The cartoon that has been published on the anniversary of the start of Lebanon’s civil war shows a Palestinian wearing a keffiyeh (a chequered black and white scarf) standing beside a coronavirus, implying that Palestinians are like the coronavirus.

Morra described it as an insult to the character, history and identity of the Palestinian people and said publishing it was in violation of journalism laws and ethics.

He also called on Lebanese officials to condemn the publication of the cartoon.

This week, Lebanon marked 45 years since the start of the Lebanese Civil War which claimed lives of an estimated 150,000 people.
